Following Ruud Gullit's resignation as LA Galaxy coach, fan groups are calling for David Beckham to be appointed as his successor...
Dutch legend Gullit handed in his resignation last week, citing personal problems for his step-down. The Galaxy are currently on an eight-game winless streak, amid disharmony at board-room level.
Galaxy had started the season in strong fashion, but have subsequently faultered. General manager Alexei Lalas has also resigned his position at the club.
The Galaxy are officially searching for a successor to Gullit, after slipping to fifth in the Western Conference of the MLS.
Ex-USA international Cobi Jones is currently the incumbent of the coaching role at the Home Depot Stadium, but supporters are calling on David Beckham to take charge on a permanent basis.
82% of the Galaxy's supporters favour the Englishman to take the reigns, with David Cordillo of the club's supporters group The Riot Squad quoted as saying:
"He's the only one with the experience, strength and knowledge to save us from sinking."
