Pepsi OK Corral Advert
In this hilarious new ad, Five strangers ride into a dusty town, hats slung low over their mean faces. As they stride through the swing doors of the saloon bar the piano falls silent and card players reach for their weapons.
No, not a remake of a classic western, but the latest multi-million pound Pepsi advertisement featuring David Beckham and his Manchester United team-mates confronting Real Madrid. It features Beckham challenging Real's goalkeeper Casillas, and the two men step outside to face each other in a dusty square. Somewhere a dog howls and a horse trots into view.
Beckham and teammates Gary Neville, Juan Veron, Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer flew to Almeria in Spain, backdrop for many of the spaghetti Westerns of the Sixties starring Clint Eastwood.
Director Tarsem Singh was inspired by films such as Gunfight At The OK Corral.
He praised the players' on-screen talents. "A lot of them were incredible actors," he said. "But Beckham was just great."
The England captain said: "I used to play cowboys and Indians as a boy. I was always the cowboy, though."
As his desperados ride into town their long leather coats flap open to reveal not cowboy boots but football boots. And in their holsters are cans of Pepsi, which sponsors Beckham to the tune of £2 million a year.
Beckham takes up the story: "I walk into a bar and the Real keeper Casillas drinks my Pepsi. So I take him outside for a penalty shoot-out and it goes on from there."
