The campaign features a number of international adidas football stars - including Beckham, Zidane, Barthez, Deisler, Raul, Costa, Aimar and Del Piero – as well as referee Collina.
The players are portrayed as famous cases of the newly discovered “Footballitis” fever, which makes them act obsessively about football, even when there’s no ball!
This off-the-wall campaign revolves around a group of zany scientists who have set up an institute to examine the footballers’ strange and “serious condition.” The scientists are baffled by the symptoms – Barthez who has “crazy hands”, Zidane who appears to have no control over his legs, Beckham and Del Piero who can’t stop themselves putting spherical objects into square structures!
The scientists even undertake experiments with blindfolded bats to try and understand the phenomena of “Footballitis celebration” – when the player scores and runs around “blinded” by the T-shirt he’s pulled over his head!
